Sivakasi election results 2026: Keerthana S of TVK wins, Congress’ Ashokan G finishes second

Keerthana S of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam secured a victory in the election, while Ashokan G of the Indian National Congress finished in second place.Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, often called the “Fireworks Capital of India,” witnessed a major political shift in 2021 after a decade of AIADMK rule. For the 2026 elections, the participating candidates are A. M. S. G. Ashokan (INC), K. T. Rajenthrabhalaji (AIADMK), Esther Mary Diana A. (NTK), and Keerthana S. (TVK).In the 2021 Assembly elections, INC’s A. M. S. G. Ashokan won with 78,947 votes, defeating AIADMK’s Lakshmi Ganesan by a margin of 17,319 votes. This followed a period of AIADMK dominance; in 2016, K. T. Rajenthrabhalaji won with 76,734 votes against INC’s C. Sreeraja, and in 2011, he secured victory with 87,333 votes against DMK’s T. Vanaraja.Historically, since the 1977 elections, the AIADMK has dominated the constituency with five victories, while the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) has won twice. The 2026 campaign is centered around issues such as welfare schemes, law and order, and the broader debate between Dravidian political identity and national integration narratives. While the DMK alliance highlights its record on industrial growth and social justice, the opposition has targeted the government over allegations of corruption and concerns about power shortages.
