‘Kara,’ starring Dhanush and directed by Vignesh Raja, has started getting fresh attention after its OTT release on Netflix. The crime thriller, which hit theatres on April 30, arrived on Netflix on May 28 and quickly became a talking point among viewers online. The film had earlier received mixed reviews during its theatrical run, with many audiences calling the screenplay slow and emotionally heavy.However, after its digital release, several viewers who skipped the film in theatres have now come forward with positive reactions on social media. Many fans are now saying the film deserved much more appreciation during its theatrical release.
Fans say negative reviews made them miss ‘Kara’ in theatres
One viewer wrote emotionally, “How did we fail to celebrate this film? I skipped watching it after seeing the online reviews, but from start to finish, the movie was absolutely brilliant. One of the best films of the year.”Another fan apologised directly to the makers and said, “Sorry Mr D and Vignesh Raja, I skipped a super solid film because of fake negative reviews and now I feel guilty. Good films deserve strong word of mouth, and Kara deserved a better audience.”The film’s interval block and bank robbery sequence are now receiving special praise from audiences online. A fan posted, “What an interval setup man!” while another review read, “The pre-interval bank robbery stretch is the scene to watch out for.” Many viewers also appreciated the emotional touch mixed with the crime drama elements.
‘Kara’ OTT audiences continue divided yet curious
At the same time, not every viewer was fully impressed with the film. Some audiences still felt the pacing remained slow despite the strong moments in the story. One social media user wrote, “Below average watch for me. Really tired of this slow-paced thriller genre.”But even critics admitted that the film had some engaging payoffs and interesting scenes. ‘Kara’ featured an ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, K. S. Ravikumar, Karunas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Jayaram. The film’s music was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Mounted on a reported budget with high expectations, many believed the film could cross the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide. However, ‘Kara’ ended its theatrical run with around Rs 50 crore at the box office.Following the OTT response, discussions around the film have once again picked up online. Meanwhile, Dhanush is currently working on his next project with director Rajkumar Periasamy, which reportedly also features Mammootty in an important role.
