In West Bengal’s Manikchak assembly election, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gour Chandra Mandal defeated Trinamool Congress’ Kabita Mandal. Gour Chandar secured 1,10,118 votes, while Kabita ended with 96,180 votes.Manikchak in 2026 will be contested by TMC’s Kabita Mandal, BJP’s Gour Chandra Mandal, and Congress’s Md. Ansarul Hoque.Manikchak is a general constituency in Malda district, under the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. It covers Manikchak community development block and several gram panchayats of English Bazar block. The area is predominantly rural with a substantial SC population of around 24 per cent. The constituency was held by CPI(M) until 2011, when TMC’s Sabitri Mitra first won the seat.In 2016, Congress’s Isha Khan Choudhury won the seat, defeating Sabitri Mitra of TMC. The 2021 contest saw a dramatic turnaround, with TMC’s Sabitri Mitra winning comfortably by over 33,000 votes as Gour Chandra Mandal of BJP came second. For 2026, TMC has chosen Kabita Mandal as its candidate rather than the previous incumbent, while BJP again fields Gour Chandra Mandal. The seat sits within the Maldaha Dakshin parliamentary constituency, which Congress won in 2024, reflecting a complex three-way competitive dynamic.
