Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding security funding debated

The New York Post reported that State Assembly Democrats discussed the proposal on Tuesday while reviewing possible additions to New York’s late budget. The item would have provided security for the Swift-Kelce nuptials in the Big Apple, but an Assembly insider said the funding was later removed from the agenda.Discussions focused on whether state troopers should help secure the high-profile event. The idea drew concern because Swift and Kelce can afford private protection. An insider also said the proposal would likely become politically controversial if it stayed in the budget. The report further noted that Swift has long criticized President Trump. The two have also publicly feuded, adding another political layer to the debate.Gov. Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers are already more than six weeks late in approving New York’s new spending plan. The budget was due April 1. The delay has increased scrutiny on late-stage items under discussion in Albany.

New York budget will not earmark wedding money

A representative for Hochul told The Post that the final budget will not include money specifically set aside for the Swift-Kelce wedding. The spokesperson said no dedicated line item for the couple’s nuptials will appear in the record USD 268 billion Empire State budget. The state budget will include USD 20 million for programming and security linked to events around the FIFA World Cup and America’s 250th Anniversary, according to a Hochul spokesperson. That broader funding, the spokesperson said, is tied to major public events and not to a private celebrity wedding. The debate still drew attention because it placed Swift and Kelce’s wedding inside a larger budget fight. Lawmakers continue to work through unresolved items as New York waits for a final spending deal. The New York Post reported that the proposed USD 250,000 security item was pulled from the Assembly agenda after the internal discussion.
