Director Vikraman has once again surprised fans by sharing another unseen song from the original version of ‘Unnai Ninaithu,’ the film that initially starred Vijay before it was eventually completed with Suriya in the lead role. Months after releasing the previously unseen track ‘Ennai Thalattum,’ the filmmaker has now unveiled another song titled ‘Ootyku Poo Ethukku.’ The release has generated excitement among Vijay fans, offering a nostalgic look at the actor during the early years of his career and reviving interest in one of Tamil cinema’s most talked-about shelved projects.
Vikraman shares ‘Ootyku Poo Ethukku’ from the shelved Vijay version
Announcing the release, Vikraman revealed that the song was filmed more than 25 years ago and that the original master copies are no longer available. In the description accompanying the video, he wrote, “This song was filmed over 25 years ago, and unfortunately, we no longer have the original high-quality audio and video masters. What you’re watching is the best version we could preserve.” Sung by Tippu, with music composed by Sirpy and lyrics penned by N.A. Muthukumar, the song presents Vijay in a youthful and rarely seen avatar. Vikraman also shared that the video has been released following repeated requests from fans who wanted to see more footage from the unfinished film.
‘Unnai Ninaithu’ that changed course with Suriya
‘Unnai Ninaithu’ remains one of the most discussed projects in Vijay’s career. The actor had shot songs and portions of some scenes for the film before he reportedly walked out over creative differences. After he left, Suriya took over as the lead actor, and Laila continued as the female lead. The film was later released under the same title and went on to become a notable romantic drama. However, the original footage featuring Vijay has remained largely unseen over the years, making every newly released clip a special moment for his fans.
Vintage footage brings back memories for Vijay fans
In a video message, Vikraman explained that neither he, the producer nor the composer Sirpy possesses the original soundtrack or negatives anymore, making it impossible to restore the footage in higher quality. He acknowledged that the visuals and audio contain imperfections but said it was important to preserve and share this piece of cinema history. The director requested that the audience revisit a chapter from Vijay’s early career and asked fans to watch the song and share their thoughts. The release is a rare find that has not only rekindled nostalgia but also given movie lovers a chance to see another forgotten chapter from a film that could have gone a very different way.
